UNLOCKING NIGERIA'S NEXT ENERGY ERA
Nigeria is actively unlocking oil and gas exploration through the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) of 2021, with the launch of a landmark 2025 licensing round offering 50 new blocks. This aligns with Nigeria’s ambitions to hit a production target of 2mmbopd by 2027 and 3mmbopd by 2030.
As Africa’s largest oil producer, Nigeria has a wealth of legacy data revealing high prospectivity leading to numerous discoveries over the last few decades. This legacy data now needs upgrading to open up new prospectivity both in existing areas and in frontier areas.
Adding prospectivity in the near-shore through Infrastructure-led Exploration (ILX) and then opening up new frontier basins sets a sustainable path to meet Nigeria’s ambitions.
WHAT'S IN
THE DATA
Working alongside our local partner Harvex Geosolutions and with the endorsement of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), we have acquired 2,083km2 of modern 3D Seismic marking Shearwater’s first project in Nigeria
- Longer offsets delivering deeper penetration, sharper fault definition and clearer sand fairway characterization.
- Improved contiguous full fold coverage around several offshore installations.
- Efficient acquisition configuration leveraging triple source to maximize dip-direction coverage up to just 32m water depth.
- The new dataset significantly increases imaging depth and provides a more robust view of source rock distribution and burial history.

AVAILABILITY
AND ACCESS
Decision-ready data from our offshore “Oganihu” Nigeria survey is now available.
Initial post-stack time migration data and a second pre-STM dataset are now available.
Processing began onboard using Reveal, with integrated infield and onshore expertise from start to finish. Further onshore full integrity processing is underway to unlock even greater subsurface resolution.
Final delivery is on track for end of 2026. Early industry interest has been strong.
WHAT'S NEXT
FOR NIGERIA AND OGANIHU
The Oganihu project in Northern Niger Delta represents Harvex Geosolutions & Shearwater’s first multi-client project offshore Nigeria in partnership with NUPRC.
This new dataset breathes a new lease of life in a mature basin adding in additional prospectivity by leveraging existing infrastructure to maximise the potential resources in this proven basin.
We have ambitions to grow our footprint further in Nigeria backed by industry and government to align with Nigeria’s ambitions to expand production output by 2030.

"This project marks an important step in delivering high-quality subsurface insights to maximise the potential for energy security and value creation in this well-proven and successful basin."
